Had to share the latest photo of my artichokes.  Some "expert" told me, no actually he arrogantly dictated to me that there is no way a home gardener can grow artichokes in New Jersey from seeds .... well here ya go mr. expert  [biggrin]

I would never tell anyone they can't do it ... I would tell them they should at least give it a try, but that's just me.

How did you do it? Are these seeds started this year? How early? Did you trick them into thinking this was their second year? I want to try them. I live near Buffalo NY. I'm assuming we have similar climates.

I started my artichoke plant inside, in February of 2013.  In the middle of May of 2013, I chose a location that receives sun all day long.  I did not get any artichokes in year 1.  My plant came back this year and is blooming like crazy.

Do you have problems with deer or rabbits eating these or does the thisle family deter the animals?
